I am so pleased to have been asked to be
Commodore of the Serpent Yacht Club.
I am a
second generation Serpent member. My late
father-in-law, Dr Jack Edgar, was part of the
founding days of the club, and I am honoured to
be part of the club especially in this anniversary
year.
Many thanks to past Commodore Seamus Lalor
who, with his committee, has increased the
membership and the turnout at all the events
despite a difficult year due to the lovely Scottish weather.
This year I am
predicting a summer full of superb racing and cruising which always results
in great camaraderie no matter what the port of call.
Add to that the 40th Anniversary events this year which have been
mentioned in previous newsletters.
The first is the Sail Past to be held at
the Royal Gourock Yacht Club on the 1st of May 2016, 40 years to the day
after the inaugural race which resulted in the Serpent Yacht Club's
formation.
Come and join the sail past on your boat or enjoy it from the comfort of the
RGYC Clubhouse. This event is not to be missed. There will be Serpent
and RGYC hospitality and a great value lunch for all to enjoy plus an
opportunity to meet old and new friends.
I would also like to bring to your attention the 40th Anniversary Dinner on
the 26th November in our old haunt, the Art Club. This year we welcome
Tom Cunliffe as our guest speaker to help celebrate the club's success of
achieving 40 years. Please bring along sailing friends from other clubs to
enjoy a yarn from someone who has been around during the same era as
the club.
Please put that date, 26/11/16 in your diary now.
“Out of the Blue” welcomes all, and I do hope to meet you on board this
summer.
