Peter and Marion Jennett have won first prize in the monohull class in the World Arc section from Cape Town to Salvador, Brazil. Ably assisted on this leg by David Toy, Exody, with limited diesel supplies avoided the scoring penalties for engine use through the numerous calm areas and sailed almost all of the way, whereas most other competitors opted to motor.
In his log Peter writes:
"Chuffed at last night's prizegiving event to win our first World ARC first prize for this, the longest leg. So, tolerating the slatting sails and keeping the engine off during the second part of the leg from St Helena paid off! We had a total of only 17.5 engine hours for the 3650 miles since Cape Town - just two jerry cans of diesel. "
The all-smiles photo shows David, Peter and Marion with Victor who is the World Arc representative on this leg of the trip.
